Unit 7 — 5-minute revision
- AI coined 1956: John McCarthy at the Dartmouth Conference — "father of AI"
- Turing Test 1950: Alan Turing — if a machine's answers are indistinguishable from a human's, it is intelligent
- Narrow AI: one task only (Siri, spam filters, chess engines); General AI: human-level across tasks (not yet achieved); Super AI: surpasses humans (theoretical)
- ML: machines learn from data without explicit programming (supervised, unsupervised, reinforcement); Deep Learning: ML using neural networks with many layers
- Applications: virtual assistants, chatbots, face unlock, recommendations (Netflix/YouTube), Google Maps traffic, fraud detection, medical diagnosis, smart agriculture, auto-translate
- Robotics + NLP: robotics = physical AI agents; NLP = machines understanding human language (speech recognition, translation)
- Expert systems: AI mimicking human expert decisions (e.g. MYCIN — medical diagnosis)
🔥 High-yield: AI term = McCarthy, Dartmouth 1956; Turing Test = 1950; Narrow AI = one task (Siri); DL = neural networks with many layers; General/Super AI don't exist yet.
